Discostroma spec. on Rhus-twig
Notes:
1) I am sure it is a Discostroma but the identification is impossible with keys in Sydowia 28(2)1974-1975:275ff and in Sydowia 58(1)2006:76-90. Allways Discostroma sanguinea on Cornus is very near.
2) The host plant Rhus is introduced in Germany.
3) On checking the Anacardiaceae-fungi in website„Cybertruffle's Robigalia“ (18.05.2011) I coud found Discostroma corticola on Rhus from Georgien 1984 only. Cotinus, Mangifera, Pistacia and Schinus are without references to genus Discostroma.
4) However it could be a new taxa!?
Habitat: Germany, forest road, planar, Rhus thyphina-twig, atteched, corticated, initial, leg., det. et fungar: 02-2011.
Examination: Rehydrated and examined in aqua dest., 02-2011.
Perithecia growing singly or in pairs, intra-subcorticol, globose, smooth, dark brown-black, soft, with necks just showing through a small grey-black clypeus, without stromatic line, without subiculum, ~0,4 mm diam.
Asci 8-spored, cylindric, short stalked, with crosier, thick-walled, inoperculat, apical ring amyloid (bb, aqua dest. + lugol), 135-150 x 10,5-13 µm.
Paraph. numerous, filamentous, tapering, hyaline, smooth, septa smooth, cells sparsely, protoplasm finely guttat, a little bit longer as the asci, 3,5 µm diam.
Ascospores cylindric, outer cells obtuse, 4-6-celled, seldom 7-celled visible in lugol only, seldom with one longitudinal septum in the middle, hyaline to yellowish, in mass yellow-redish, smooth, thin-walled, slightly constricted at middle septum, protoplasm finely and irregular guttat, obliquely uniseriat in ascus, 19-22,3-25 x 7-7,7-8,5 µm (lxb), 2,37-2,91-3,45 (l/b-quotient), 689 µm³ (v-middle).
